Hebridean Sheep were our choice for Sunnyside, being hardy to this climate and grazing conditions. They are thought to be descendants from the hardy breeds brought over by the Vikings. We have a small flock and breed 2 and 4 horned Hebrideans, some of them being registered with the Hebridean Sheep Society.

Hebridean fleece is dense and strong being black in colour at a young age, bleaching brown with sunlight, to silvery-grey as they age. Fleeces differ in colour shades with each sheep, which makes them unique giving a natural colour variation for the Weaver. We hand shear our flock and the shorn fleece is available from Sunnyside. |

"Hebridean Meat" The meat of the Hebridean is unique. It is a rich, dark colour and has a succulent, tender texture, a gamey, delicious and long forgotten flavour. Added to that it offers health advantages over other well known breeds of sheep – the meat is very lean and recent tests have shown that it has a significantly lower cholesterol level. Like our Fold of Highland Cattle , we have a small flock of Hebridean Sheep, breeding quality animals, and by keeping their numbers small, endeavour not to unbalance the delicate biodiversity of the land and its natural plant and animal life. |
